Scotland-based hospital Castle Craig has created a private therapy session specifically for those who are addicted to cryptocurrency trading. The treatment is said to help patients deal with crypto trading addiction and more importantly teach them how to live without trading.

Hospital Lends a Hand

Reports have shown that like online gambling, cryptocurrency traders can just as well become chronic addicts to digital currency trading like bitcoin and other alternative cryptocurrencies as many are consumed with the tracking of every price move in the market.

Critically considering the situation, it should be noted that it’s not just cryptocurrency traders who are locked up in this dilemma. There are also those who trade stocks and follow foreign exchange markets in a similar situation. The reason behind pinpointing cryptocurrency traders, however, is directly related to the market’s high volatility, making trading cryptocurrencies way riskier than trading in any other markets.

Chris Burn, a therapist for gambling patients for many years at the hospital, said:

“The high risk, fluctuating cryptocurrency market appeals to the problem gambler. It provides excitement and an escape from reality. Bitcoin has been heavily traded, and huge gains and losses were made. It’s a classic bubble situation.”

To adequately address this situation, Castle Craig Hospital, which currently runs programs for drugs and alcohol addicts, has also set up this course for cryptocurrency addicts. The hospital happens to be the first to offer such program to help locals and also uses the same therapeutic methods with those who are addicted to gambling.

Crypto Addiction: “Rare as Hens’ Teeth”

Though the hospital has no exact figure of those who might be suffering from this kind of situation, it reports that there are roughly 13 million people world over who are actively trading cryptocurrencies.

Tony Marini, a former drug and gambling addict, will also hold therapy sessions with the patients. Being someone who could relate to their situation, he said it was vital to have life structure plans introduced to these addicts.

“Having been through it myself, my experience of addiction gives me insight and empathy towards others who have the same problem. I see cryptocurrency trading as a way for people to escape from themselves, into another world, because they don’t like the world they’re in.”

As cryptocurrency traders are on the rise, the need for them to keep their emotions in check is critical so as they can avoid visits to generous hospitals like Castle Craig.
