The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has said that WISeKeY is among the five African trends expected to achieve great feats in the tech ecosystem this year. The company’s Digital Identity Blockchain is currently doing excellent work with the United Nations in the actualization of the 2030 goal to provide everyone in the world with a legal digital identity.
Closing Registry Loopholes
WISeKey International Holding Ltd is a leading, worldwide cybersecurity and internet of things (IoT) firm, focused on developing solutions for personal data protection, efficient identification, and authentication of people and objects. The company has announced that its digital identity service has been selected by the BBC as one of five African tech trends to blaze the trail in 2018.
WISeKey’s blockchain-based documentation solution will be vital in Africa where there is little or no standard system of documentation. Even when there are records, the possibility of these documents being compromised is always very high. This shortcoming has often led to severe land disputes.
The WISeKey Digital Identity Blockchain solution eliminates all the pitfalls of the traditional system of record keeping as it allows governments to digitize their land registry to ensure control of authenticity.
The WISeKey team has developed a system it calls WISeID Suite of Mobile Applications. The system is a highly secure semiconductor solution that digitally stores data for identification and authentication of assets.
The Founder and CEO of WISeKey, Carlos Moreira, has said that:
“Our Digital Identity technology helps governments around the globe provide trusted Blockchain solutions. Our Digital Identity Blockchain solution fills technology gaps in the private and public Blockchain infrastructure for enterprise and governmental projects, and facilitates secure transactions by verifying the identity of the parties participating in these transactions.”
WISeKey is currently working with some countries by assisting them in the implementation of the CertifyID Blockchain solution, which serves as a digital identity dual-factor authentication. The solution grows infinitely as new blocks are appended to it with a fresh set of data. Each node receives a copy of the respective Blockchain and gets downloaded automatically upon joining the network.
The system possesses the full decentralized power of Blockchain technology. Therefore, it can be operated from any location through a distributed identity ledger run by trusted parties across the Blockchain.
Andhra Pradesh, the seventh largest state in India, is looking use WISekey’s revolutionary PKI based system to enhance the security of citizens’ identity thereby positioning them to receive government’s services directly.
The WISekey chief further noted that:
“To have a pristine vision like putting citizens at the center of gravity by giving them the tools to own their Legal Digital Identity, and building a secure infrastructure around this vision, is the key to empower citizens to unleash their full potential successfully.”
Another innovative creation of the WISeKey team is the OISTE-WISeKey Cryptographic Root of Trust (RoT). The RoT has been used actively since 1999 by over 2.6 billion desktop computers, browsers, mobile devices and SSL certificates and IoT devices, globally.
The Cryptographic RoT is both ubiquitous and universal and has been at the frontline, in the creation of digital identities.
According to WISeID, over 1.3 billion people are undocumented and without an identity. This limitation makes it impossible for them to benefit from vital economic services from the government like food, education, healthcare and many more.
