Dogecoin (DOGE) On the Verge of Implementing an Upgrade Backed by Elon Musk

According to the most recent update from the team of developers, the Dogecoin Core 1.14.5 upgrade is nearing completion. According to the network’s developers, it will finalize the much-anticipated fee reduction for all network participants.

Details of the Release

It contains changes to the RPC interface (P2P and client) that improve compatibility with the go-dogecoin/dogecoind rpc_auth branch. Also, Backports of all bug fixes and improvements from Bitcoin Core up to and including 0.14.0

New feature to validate node addresses via DNS lookup against the GeoIP2 Internet-wide database. Hence, this will allow Dogecoin Core nodes to be run without -addnode= arguments. They are additionally giving users more freedom in how they connect their nodes. The main benefit here is that it allows for IP address filtering using firewall rules.

Therefore, Dogecoin Core nodes will be much more difficult to inadvertently connect to as they are now and only accessible via explicit -addnode= arguments. This change fixes issues people experienced when running Dogecoin Core on the Tor network where malicious guards would capture and re-broadcast any -addnode= arguments.

The release binaries are built using Go 1.9, which features improved CPU and memory usage performance. It will fix mempools’ DoS vulnerability from malleated transactions (CVE-2018-17144). Moreover, it will add -enforcenodebloom option to deliver accurate block size estimates Backports of all bug fixes and improvements from Bitcoin Core up to and including v0.17.0 (including SegWit)

Dogecoin’s Roadmap

With the new upgrade, the core wallet’s block inclusion fee was set at 0.01 DOGE (approximately $0.002) per kilobyte. As an added benefit, such a change will assist in making Dogecoin more readily accepted as a payment option.

Dogecoin has been around since 2013. Programmer Billy Markus created it. It was in response to what he saw as a lack of excitement in the Bitcoin market. The term “doge” is derived from “dog”, an internet slang term for dog pictures.

Dogecoin was created to have fun with the meme. Its popularity is reflected in the coin’s designation with the word “joke currency” compared to Bitcoin, which is considered the flagship digital currency.

Dogecoin Core 1.14.5 has been tagged “gone gold” as an open-source running on Gitian build process for it now. As reported, the Core team feels that the time is right for this, as it provides a stable base to build upon in future releases.

That does not mean people should stop testing development releases – far from it! Testing development releases continue to be extremely important. However, this release is crucial as it marks the first stable, non-beta release of Dogecoin Core.
