G2A, one of the biggest video game platforms, now accepts bitcoin through a partnership with BitPay. Acceptance of bitcoin will allow gamers to go fully digital; as more gamers are downloading their games instead of purchasing hard copies, it only makes sense they should be able to use a digital payment method as well.
“We are delighted to partner with G2A which will help us scale bitcoin payments to a broad gaming audience,” said Marcel Roelants, General Manager BitPay EMEA in a statement. “By their nature, digital goods like games, are borderless. Using Bitcoin as a global payment method will complement the online experience.”
With G2A being a leading video game platform, G2A reaches over 700,000 transactions monthly. Last year, G2A saw 6 million unique users using their service; Bitcoin will appeal to the global user base as it can be used internationally. The digital gaming marketplace claims to provide “a safe and efficient way to make transactions for digital products like games, software activation licenses for Steam, Xbox Live cards, PSN codes and time-cards for online games.”
“By adding bitcoin, buyers and sellers at G2A can now benefit from another great global payment method,” said G2A.COM Executive VP of Global Payments Bob Voermans: ‘In my estimation this partnership will increase growth for sellers due to the fact that customers will buy more often on the G2A.COM Marketplace.”
Besides offering gaming products, G2A is a certified global digital marketplace developed by professionals in diverse fields including management, finance, public relations and marketing. It has over 6 million unique users, and had more than 5 million transactions worldwide in 2014.
