When you think of Mike Tyson, what comes to mind? Former undisputed heavyweight champion? Of course. How about Bitcoin entrepreneur? Mike Tyson now has that under his belt too.
In a press event occurring at Off the Strip in LINQ on September 24th, the Mike Tyson Bitcoin ATMs were released to the world. While the first Bitcoin ATM is stationed in Las Vegas, NV, Mike Tyson ATMs plan to have several more in the area as well as globally sometime down the road.
“I am honored to join the bitcoin revolution with my very first bitcoin ATM,” said Tyson. “The Mike Tyson-branded Bitcoin ATM at Off the Strip at the LINQ is the first of hopefully many across the globe. I am very excited about the possibilities.”
The Mike Tyson Bitcoin ATMs were made possible through a partnership between Tyson and Bitcoin Direct, LLC, a subsidiary of Conexus Corporation. CEO of Bitcoin Direct, Peter Klamka, believes assigning the image of a public figure like Mike Tyson with such a broad demographic will do their specific Bitcoin ATMs as well as Bitcoin as a currency worlds of good in terms of publicity.
“Mike is a universally known boxer and celebrity whose fan base extends across a broad demographic,” said Peter Klamka, CEO of Bitcoin Direct. “People around the world of all ages recognize him. The Mike Tyson Bitcoin ATM should help introduce Bitcoin, the digital currency formerly seen as only used by the tech savvy, to the consumer and broaden its availability and appeal to the general public.”
Compared to different purchasing methods of Bitcoin, such as linking a credit card or bank account to a company like Circle or Coinbase, purchasing Bitcoin through an ATM is a much more convenient vehicle for first-time purchases. Consumers are more likely to download a single app and insert some cash, an entire process that can be performed in under a minute, than they are to sign up for an account, transmit confidential information, and then possibly have to wait several days for bank verification before making their first purchase.
In terms of securing new users to the Bitcoin ecosystem, Bitcoin ATMs like Mike Tyson’s offer the lowest barrier of entry for new users interested in obtaining their first satoshis.
