South Africa’s SAFCOIN Cryptocurrency Launches Cancer Awareness Crypto Pink Friday
SAFCOIN, a South Africa-based cryptocurrency, in association with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) has kick-started the first-ever Crypto Pink Friday drive in order to raise awareness about breast and cervical cancer. This, according to a report by The South African, August 30, 2019.
Crypto and Causes
Amidst the extremely dynamic socio-economic times of the 21st century, cryptocurrencies and humanitarian causes have often found each other on the crossroads. Digital currencies and the technology that underpins them – blockchain technology – promise a safe, secure, and transparent alternative to the traditional notion of money as we know it which is often subject to immense scrutiny and physical tracking by financial institutions the world over.
Leveraging the use of cryptocurrencies for noble causes, SAFCA and CANSA have joined forces to raise awareness about breast and cervical cancer, which are the first and second most commonly diagnosed forms of cancer among women in South Africa, respectively.
Per sources close to the matter, SAFCOIN cryptocurrency traders on August 30 will enjoy a 50 percent discount on trading fees, with one percent of the net transaction value being donated to CANSA. Interested traders can deposit funds and buy SAFCOIN on the community’s official exchange website throughout August 30 to avail the attractive discount.
Michela Ferreira, the co-founder and Chief Communications Officer of SAFCOIN, stated:
“Instead of distributing an airdrop deal for SAFCOIN we decided on a Pink Friday drive where we offer half-price deals on the mining pool packages and donate a percentage of all the sales to CANSA.”
For the uninitiated, an airdrop is essentially a free distribution of digital currency or token to the numerous existing wallet holders of that cryptocurrency. The strategy is typically employed by organizations and firms that are looking to gain a quick boost in the total number of followers and increase their social media presence. However, looking at the humanitarian flavor of the cause, SAFCOIN decided against doing an airdrop. Instead, the community decided to go ahead with the idea of the Crypto Pink Friday.
South Africa Becoming a Global Crypto Hotbed
It is perhaps no surprise that an increasing number of entities in South Africa are embracing cryptocurrencies given the fact that the African nation’s citizens rank first when it comes to the number of people who have searched the word “crypto” on Google.
“We are not here to overthrow the existing financial system but rather tap into the numerous benefits of crypto for Africa by developing use case technology for every individual to benefit from the positives of crypto-currency. All whilst maintaining the highest levels of business ethics and standards.”
