United Nations Global Compact Welcomes Enjin (ENJ)

United Nations Global Compact Welcomes Enjin (ENJ)

Enjin (ENJ) distributed ledger technology (DLT) project has become a participant of the United Nations Global Compact initiative. The organization aims to promote sustainability and Enjin’s dedication to the reduction of carbon emission in the blockchain ecosystem through JumpNet, which aligns with one of the Principles of the UN Global Compact, according to a press release on July 20, 2021.

Enjin Joins the UN Global Compact

Enjin (ENJ), an Ethereum-powered blockchain project that claims to be focused on providing developers with innovative tools they need to create and manage decentralized virtual goods, has become the latest member of the United Nations Global Compact.

Established in July 2000, the UN Global Compact is a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General that serves as a clarion call to businesses across the globe, to align their processes with 10 key principles that further promotes the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As stated in a press release,  the 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact encourages participants to embrace sustainable practices in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, anti-corruption and more.

Enjin Reaches a Significant Milestone

Since its inception, the UN Global Impact has attracted more than 12,000 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories in over 160 nations across the globe, making it the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. However, the organization has made it clear that becoming a member requires a serious commitment to its sustainability and equality principles.

Commenting on Enjin’s admission into the network of global brands dedicated to making the UN’s SDGs a reality,  Esther Chang, Executive Director of Global Compact Network Singapore, said:

“With less than ten years left to meet the UN’s 2030 Agenda on sustainable development, technology plays an important role that can help us reach the SDGs faster and contribute to a more prosperous and sustainable world.” We warmly welcome Enjin to the United Nations Global Compact and look forward to working alongside them to take decisive action for the SDGs.”

As reported by BTCManager earlier in April 2021, Enjin (ENJ) launched JumpNet, a carbon-negative, gas-free blockchain that enables users to mint eco-friendly digital collectibles popularly known as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

At a time when blockchain projects are making active plans to transition to entirely green energy sources for their processes, Enjin’s launch of JumpNet has proved to be an innovative move and this act has been applauded by the UN Global Compact.

Irakli Beridze, Head, Centre for AI and Robotics, UNICRI, United Nations said:

“We are excited to work with Enjin to explore how blockchain and NFTs can contribute to the fulfillment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

In related news, on June 25, 2021, reports emerged that Tron Game Center, a blockchain gaming platform, has dumped the Tron network for Enjin’s cost-efficient and green NFT ecosystem.

At press time, the price of Enjin (ENJ) is hovering around $1.01, with a market cap of $840 million, according to CoinMarketCap.
