ChangeTip, a bitcoin tipping service that enables anyone to tip anyone else with bitcoin, has partnered with Gyft, a digital gift card platform, to allow users in the United States to withdraw their tips in gift cards.
With the partnership, ChangeTip users can now withdraw their accumulated tips to gift cards from retailers like Starbucks, Amazon, iTunes and Xbox directly from the Gyft platform.
“ChangeTip has partnered with Gyft to provide you with gift cards to purchase with all those tips you’ve earned. Now you can actually purchase that coffee, or music on iTunes, or even a little something from Amazon or Xbox,” ChangeTip announced in a recent email.
“We are doing this because it’s important for people to use their tips. If you receive a coffee, claim the coffee,” explained Victoria van Eyk, ChangeTip’s community manager. “If it goes well I’d love to link monikers to gift cards, so you can send someone an item and have them claim it at a store,” she added.
Despite the recent report from Bitpay which indicated that 39% of its transactions were related to gift cards, Gyft has seen a significant decrease in bitcoin sales on their platform, since its integration in 2013.
Gyft co-founder and CEO Vinny Lingham, a big supporter of bitcoin, has always insisted on continuing the use of bitcoin on the platform, and has engaged in potential partnerships that could increase bitcoin sales on Gyft.
In accordance with the strategical partnership with Gyft, ChangeTip has launched a Facebook– and Twitter-like content-sharing platform called TipWorthy, which enables users to nominate “TipWorthy” content for rewards and incentives.
“We believe that great content is something to celebrate and support,” says the ChangeTip team. “Why are ads the main source of compensation for these great content creators? Why can’t we have a better user experience where we can discover great content without ads and get more from the creators of this content by tipping them?”
Curators and content “nominators” will be rewarded and incentivized for discovering great content. “They’ll share tips with content creators — 4.5% for posting great content or 9% for including creator contact information with the post.”
